01:50 pm - Hello Journal I neglected to mention that we also saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, thereby neglecting to write a long, scathing review. Actually it wasn't THAT bad. You didn't hear me say that. I didn't say that. Johnny Depp wasn't as perverted as Gene Wilder, which made it at least 5% better than the original. It delves more into where Wonka came from and finishes a "everybody's happy wheeeee" ending. The ending wasn't completely necessary, but I maybe they wanted to make it more kid friendly. Dahl had input on it, so maybe it was more to his original vision than its predecessor. Although, that does create one problem: The creator has the opportunity to change things that maybe he would've liked to have done in hindsight. Everyone thinks "oh, it would've been much better if I tweaked this" after finishing a project and hearing critism. The movie pretty much does the same thing as the previous, except the added bits about Wonka's history/end. It just appears in Tim Burton style. The only other things that are different are the squirrels, the glass elevator and they used one guy to play all the Oompa Loompas (cut and paste). Which, surprisingly, didn't really look that odd. Also, disregard all the Michael Jackson references. I did not get that impression at all. If you're familiar with Tim Burton (who isn't), that's his stereotypical gothesque atmosphere. Current Mood: good
